A monument to walnut was opened in Dnipropetrovsk region

On October 21, in Voloske, the village in Dnipropetrovsk region, a grand opening of a creative monument to walnut was held.

The opening of this unusual memorial, which height is about three meters, has gathered quite a lot of spectators: adults and children came to see the walnut.

This product really deserves its own monument. Since ancient times, the tree, on which the fruits of this nut grew, for its amazing medicinal qualities is called “a tree of life”. The fruits consist of almost 75% of fats and 15% of proteins. The rest 10% belong to fatty acids and oils, which include such well-known and essential elements for human health as carotene, phosphorus, iron, iodine, calcium, sodium, magnesium, copper, essential oils, tannins, vitamins B, A, PP, N, E, S.

In folk medicine kernels, leaves, butter of nut seeds and even bark of walnut tree are used widely. Walnut is a nutritious product that has a beneficial effect on the work of the heart, kidneys and the brain. It strengthens immunity, improves mental activity, helps the human body to fight aging effectively.

Useful properties of walnut are large and varied. This is a very valuable product that was presented to us by mother nature.

Horus Group constantly buys at a high price and sells walnuts. For delivery, please, contact our walnut collection points. List and contacts see here. For detailed information call 068-500-43-09.

Horus Group took part in a webinar called “Walnut business “turn-key”

On October 7, a webinar called “Walnut business “turn-key”, organized by the portal orehovod.com, was held. Practitioners and owners of the walnut industry of Ukraine took part in it. The purpose of this event was to convey to newcomers already gained experience and accumulated knowledge in the walnut industry. The program of the webinar was wide and covered the issues from selecting a plot for planting walnut seedlings to finding a buyer and product sales.

Horus Group took part in this event. The head of the company Serhiy Hvodzyk gave a report about the walnut market situation in the world and in Ukraine in 2017.

Thus, according to Serhiy Hvodzyk, the main innovation in 2017 is an increase of the import duty rate for walnut in Turkey, where 80% of Ukrainian inshell walnuts are exported. Another important factor affecting the pricing of Ukrainian products is the growth of walnut production in Chile by 15-20% each year over the past 3 years.

As the head of Horus Group noted, there are a number of problems that hamper the development of walnut industry in the country, such as:

  • the immutability of tax legislation in Ukraine in 2016/17, as a consequence, the presence of barriers to the exporters work;
  • walnuts are procured in households without certificates of origin and without paying  taxes to the state budget.

At the end of the event, participants received valuable gifts, but most importantly, they received invaluable information that was not found at seminars or on the Internet.

The rise in the import duty of walnuts in Turkey by 94% from September 23, 2017

“From September 23, 2017, the Ministry of Economy of Turkey, introduced some new rules for calculating the import duty of walnuts, cashews and almonds in order to protect and support the national producer,” Hürriyet, Turkish news agency is reported.

This information is also published in the official Gazette of the Ministry of Economy of Turkey.

So, starting from September 23, 2017, the “basic customs value” for the whole import of in-shell walnuts per kilogram has increased from 1.8$ to 3.5$. For shelled walnuts, the “basic customs value” has grown from 5.4$ to 6.5$. The customs clearance rate remains unchanged, and makes up 43% of the greater: either of “value of the goods” or “basic customs value”.

That is: let’s say, in-shell walnuts are exported from Ukraine for the value 1.55$/kg CIF Turkey.

  • From September 23, 2017, the import duty is: 3.5$ (base customs value) *43% = 1.5$, that is, the walnut price with the customs clearance in Turkey will be: 1.55$+1.5$ = 3.05$/kg
  • By September 23, 2017, the import duty for the same lot was: 1.8$ (base customs value) *43% = 0.77 $, to wit the cost of clearance has increased almost twice. The total value of the lot would be 2.32$/kg (1.55$+1.8$*43%).

Similar changes, but less cardinal, concerns shelled walnuts: the “base customs value” has increased from 5.4$ to 6.5$.

Does this have an impact on the Ukrainian market for walnut? Certainly.
80% of Ukrainian in-shell walnuts are exported to Turkey.

Accordingly, such a abrupt jump of the import duty in Turkey will have an impact on the demand of Turkish buyers in Ukraine and, accordingly, the price of  in-shell walnuts in Ukraine.
